About Laurie McCanna

I specialize in interface design work for software companies, and I am currently looking for one more corporate client. Clients for interface design have included Informix, Adaptec and Brother International, BEA Systems and America Online. I design splash screens, animations and icons for software interfaces, which establish the look, feel, and continuity necessary for ease of use. I have experience designing interface elements for software running on the following platforms: Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, Geoworks, Motif, and X-Windows. I'm adept at creating icons that fit in with a current line of products and operating system, and I'm fluent in designing for black and white, 16 color, and 256 color environments. I've designed interface elements for desktop, laptop, handheld, and telephony products. If you have a project you'd like to discuss with me, please feel free to drop me a line.

I have also written for magazines (Corel Magazine, Technique), and you can also view samples from my book, Creating Great Web Graphics. Creating Great Web Graphics is currently in its second edition.

I've also designed a half-dozen typefaces, mostly decorative, that have been licensed by Nimx Foundry.

WEB WORK

Small Business Express Logo

This is the logo I designed for a column I wrote for GNN in 1996. The column, Small Business Express, was very popular. GNN was absorbed into America Online in December 1996.

Original Interface Design for NetRadio
This is an interface I designed for Net.Radio, back in the early days of the Web, when everything was in black and white ;-). NetRadio was promptly bought out. They're still using some of the interface elements and the logo.

OTHER WORK

And before the web and software interface design, I created editorial illustrations and designs for toys and packaging. I graduated from the Academy of Art in San Francisco with a BFA in illustration in 1991.
