Auto F/X is offering trial downloads of their newest products created for web graphics. also makes a series of edge effect filters, and now are offering demos of their products, including Web Vise, a suite of web graphics plugins, and Universal Animator, a gif animation plugin that works with Illustrator, CorelDraw, Freehand, Photoshop, and an array of other programs. Check out Auto F/X's latest and greatest upgrade to Photo/Graphic Edges which include unlimited undos. Gif Cruncher offers to squeeze every last extra byte out of your gifs for you. Vertigo 3D is now offering downloadable tryouts of their 3D plugin filters for Photoshop. Both Mac and Windows versions are available. Adobe is now offering trial versions of some of their most popular software packages, including Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Microsoft offers beta downloads, and a gallery of itty bitty sound files and icons for web developers. AFH Beveler Filter a shareware filter for Windows creates beveled edges on a rectangular image. Great for quick icons for web pages. Want to know how to create bevels the old fashioned way? Check out my Photoshop Tip on creating beveled-edged icons. BeInfinite offers a demo of their Photoshop Plugin Manager - Mac Only. There's a freeware Windows application for plugin management available for downloading. Alien Skin makes a wonderful set of commercial filters called Eye Candy, available for both Mac and Windows. You can download a sample filter from their site. I have two tips on using the Alien Skin filters. Media Spark has a collection of free filters for both Mac and Windows users that includes vignette, edge effects, pixellate, and more. Extensis has downloadable demos of their filters available for download for both Mac and Windows users. Andromeda offers demos of their three filter sets for Mac and Windows users. There's also a patch for Corel PhotoPaint users who wish to use Andromeda filters. Download Texture Mill or Retro Scan for the Mac two Photoshop shareware filters. PC Resources for Photoshop offers lots and lots of links for Windows users to references, Boxtop Software offers a token handful of Windows filters, and a veritable plethora of Mac filters for download. Plugins for the Mac, available for download, called Colleen's Filters, include Kwick Mask, Adjust Saturation, and more! Ulead makes two Windows Photoshop plugins that are especially helpful for web work. With the Gif and Jpg Smart Savers you can preview an image's file size before you save it. Very cool. You can download a 30 day demo of their software from their site. They also have demo versions of their Cool 3D and GIF Animator programs. NVR Border Mania is a set of plugin filters that create beveled edges for icons, photos, etc. This is a freeware set of filters for Windows. Don't miss the Color Push Button filter. MetaTools Software offers a free demo of KPT (that's Kai's Power Tools, cool-beyond-cool filters) 3.0 that you can download for Mac or Windows, as well as helpful tips for using Photoshop, and much more. Die hard users of Photoshop may already be familiar with the Filter Factory, a way to create home made filters to sate the ever growing need for more, more, MORE filters! Thankfully, there's now a support group for Filter Factory users users. They'll tell you how to roll your own filters, and even share some of their own discoveries with you. Trust me, there are enough filters here to keep you busy for a month. Xaos makes some very cool filters for the Mac. You can download demos of TypeCaster, PaintAlchemy 2, TubeTime, and Fresco, Terrazzo. Two useful Mac filters: Grid Creator and Eliminate White (useful for masking out the backgrounds in images) are available for download by Mac users. Again, not a plugin, but completely awesome web artwork available for download. Bryce Glass has made some of his work available for download: the truly nifty feature is that you can download the files in native Photoshop or Painter format, with layers intact, so you can see how he created the work. Wonderful stuff, makes me positively puce with envy. A little known fact: if you own an Adobe product and would like to receive their magazine, you can go to their website and request it.
