So you've found the perfect piece of clip art...but it's the wrong color? Luckily, it's much easier to recolor clip art than you might think!

First, make sure that the clip art is in RGB 24 bit color before you make any changes to it. In Photoshop 3, select Mode/RGB. In Photoshop 4, select Image/Mode/RGB.

In PaintShop Pro, select Colors/Increase Color Depth/24 bit. You will want to change the colors to 24bit RGB color for almost any manipulations that you do to clipart including resizing, rotating, skewing, etc.

To recolor the clip art in Photoshop, select Image/Adjust/Hue-Saturation-Brilliance. Move the slider for Hue to the left or right to change the color. You'll see how simple it is to create a whole rainbow of recolored clipart this way. If the original clipart was grayscale instead of color, make sure that the Colorize checkbox is checked.

To recolor clip art in PaintShop Pro, select Colors/Adjust/Hue-Saturation-Luminance, and change the percentage for Hue. For grayscale artwork, select Colors/Colorize to change the colors in the image.

To save the recolored art as a gif file, in Photoshop 3 select Mode/Indexed, in Photoshop 4 select Image/Mode/Indexed, and then save the file as a .gif file. In PaintShop Pro, select Colors/Decrease Color Depth, and select a color depth for the image. Then save the file as a .gif image.
